A question/review of a website.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Your question about your website has many parts to it. First thing, remember a website should be an extension of your offline marketing. Not a replacement for it. Examples are when you get a yellow book listing, or a small one or two inch ad in print or even a classified ad. The space is usually small because of the cost, so you should list the basics, the name of the company, a single line or two that states something about what you do or a slogan, your phone and then your web site address.

www.WebSpace4Rent.comYour website is where you give your customers all the dirty detail, because webspace is cheap. If you look at my short simple ad above, you will see a company name, my slogan so you know what we do “website hostingâ€, you have a number to call if you like, and you have a website to see more detail. Now, sometimes I drop the slogan and go more to the point based on where I’m placing the ad and who my target market, “Website Hosting & Design†or “Hosting, Design, & Domain Name Registrations†you get the point. For your husbands business maybe just a slog like “Home Improvement & Repairâ€. Make sure your website is on business cards, invoices, sales flyers and the back of your car, truck or van.
Now this brings us to the next part. The website content/design and the site’s domain name. Your domain name is maybe not the most important (content is probably the most important with the content layout and design equally as important) but the domain name should be easy to type and remember and should not be off the root of a free web hosting site.
We can talk more about how to get your site listed in Yahoo, Google and MSN. We can also look at Pay-Per-Click online ads. But we need to take care of some basic house cleaning items first. We need to look at your domain name and getting off the free hosting with the ads that don’t relate to your home improvement services. Let see about putting your own ads on the site that make you money!
Let me know if you would like to continue this conversation. This is a little bit of a sales pitch for my own hosting business, but you can use anyone and I’ll still be here to help you out. Just don’t pay more then $4.00 a month for the hosting and $8.95 for the domain. The total for the site hosting and domain name for what we are talking about here should run you no more then about $60.00 to $70 a year.
I’m going to post this on my Blog at iam.ws4r.com, check it out. I’d just ask that you post any feedback or follow up questions as a comment on the Blog. This way I can share this with others, and point others back to this conversation. I get a lot of people asking me to review sites and help them out via email. I am happy to do it, plus by posting them on the Blog others may have some insight to share so let’s all do it together.
Kind Regards,
George Wilson
